The Musikfest just started and is opening the Berlin season 2013/14.
This Year the focus is on Bartok, Janacek and Lutoslawski and the music from the former East block / East Europe or like it says in the preface to the festival the Middle of Europe. A beautiful choice as an introduction is the text Hudba from Elias Canetti. Hudba is Czech for the word music and Canetti loves how it sounds like Bartok, Janacek or Stravinsky.
Unfortunately the interesting programm is slightly konservative: There is not even one worldpremiere or reopening of a work from a contemporary composer. And we are sure there is a lot in Czech republic, Poland or Hungary that would fit the purpose!
Anyway, these are the three concerts we decided to go to:
1. Shostakovich symphonie #13 "Babi Yar"
2. the violin concerto from Janacek
3. Stravinsky "Les Noces" in the restored version from 1919 by Theo Verbey
We looking forward to these concerts and gonna report in detail about them. If you here in Berlin and visiting any of the concerts of the Musikfest send us your thoughts or meet and talk to us during the breaks or after the concerts. We are open for your opinion.
